Since the 16th century, stevia has been used as a sweetener in soft drinks and tea. Stevia is a shrub from the sunflower family. Stevia was discovered first in Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. It is now grown in India as well, although the use of Stevia has not reached Kerala in any significant way.
